Mid-Season 8th Grade Football Recap

The Centralia 8th grade team traveled to Palmyra on September 12 for their first game of the season. Centralia’s offense struggled to get any traction in the game. The 8th grade team lead my quarterbacks Aidan Bourgeois and Beau Gordon were able to move the ball on a few series, but unable to put any points on the board. Palmyra also struggled to move the ball and the 8th grade defense was able to hold Palmyra out of the endzone. The game ended in a 0-0 tie and Centralia quickly turned their attention to Macon for first home game of the season.
The Macon Tigers travel to Centralia to play the Panthers on a very hot and humid Tuesday afternoon. On the next possession with runs from Austin Tuggle, Beau Gordon, and Mason Barr the Panthers were able to move inside Macon’s 20 yard line. Beau Gordon connected on a 16 yard pass to Blayne Leonard for a touchdown and then Gordon ran the ball in on 2 point conversion to put Centralia up 8-6. On the kickoff Mason Barr was able to recover an onside kick and Centralia had the ball again. Centralia quickly moved the ball down the field and Beau Gordon scored on a 35 yard run with solid blocking from his offensive line compiled on Bradley Werkmeister, Isaac Tuggle, Dakota Golian, Evan Bruns, and Chase Rawlings. Austin Tuggle converted the 2 points conversion to put Centralia up 16- 6 at the half.

Centralia was not done with scoring in the game. Centralia put together a long drive with a mixture of passes and runs to move the ball down to Macon’s 2 yard line. Macon put together a drive in the final minutes of the game to make the final score Centralia 32 – Macon 20. Thus, making Centralia’s record for the seaon 1-0-1 with 4 games left in the season. Next game on the schedule was a 8 mile trip south to play Hallsville.
In the third game of the season the 8th grade Panthers travelled to Hallsville to play the Indians. Centralia opened the game with the football. Centralia advanced the ball into Hallsville territory, but a fumble turned the ball over to Hallsville. Hallsville struggled to move the ball against a stingy Centralia defense on their first drive and throughout the game. The stingy defense was helped by the defensive backfield of Zach Schnarre, Jaren Johnson, Ben Greenlee, and Gabe Maenner who helped the Centralia defense with tight pass coverage and good open field tackles.
Beau Gordon started the scoring for the Panthers with a 18 yard run and Austin Tuggle converted the 2 point conversion with a run to put Centralia up 8-0. Centralia took the lead and never looked back against the Indians. On the next series Gordon connected with Blayne Leonard on a 47 yard pass to put Centralia up 14-0, Gordon ran 2 point conversion in to make the score 16-0 Panthers. Centralia lead going into half and would score 2 more times in second half to win 30-6. Beau Gordon had a 55 yard run and Austin Tuggle had a 52 yard run to end the scoring for the Panthers.
