Matt Smith, CHS Principal, recognized Halia Hargis as the CHS Student of the Month for December. Leah Rolfson, Centralia R-VI orchestra and choir instructor, nominated Hargis for this honor.

Hargis, daughter of Robert and Michele Hargis, is a senior at CHS. Her favorite class is Chamber Choir. “My favorite class is Chamber Choir because it is so relaxing to have a class where I can just sing all hour,” Hargis said.

Outside of school, Hargis is involved in many extracurricular activities. She is on the cheerleading team, and she is involved in Future Teachers of America and Drama Club.

Rolfson nominated Hargis for many reasons. “She is a leader in Chamber Choir, and she did a wonderful job as a scrubwoman in the Madrigal. She spent extra time preparing the cafeteria for the show,” Rolfson said. Hargis goes above and beyond with a positive attitude.

Hargis will be attending Missouri Western State University in the fall of 2018. She is planning to major in elementary and secondary education.
