Nicholas Brooks, John Durant and Olivia Eikel were chosen for the All-Tournament Team during the Centralia Tournament. Each participating coach in the tournament votes for ten other players they believe deserve this award. Athletes who receive the top ten votes are the players who make the team. Each player’s performance in the tournament will reflect how many votes that player receives.
Durant and Brooks are both sophomores at CHS. They were both happy to receive this award. Brooks said he focused on doing whatever he could to help his team during tournament play. He played hard and tried his best to make a positive impact on the game. Durant said he focused on driving the ball toward the hole, tried to dish the ball to his teammates and pushed to get several rebounds. Coach Humphrey was very proud of them. Brooks and Durant were the only two underclassmen to receive the All-Tournament Team honors. Humphrey said, “Nic and John both had outstanding tournaments. They averaged right around 15-16 point per game. They played extremely confident and aggressive.” Both Brooks and Durant show a lot of potential and leadership on and off the court.
Eikel is a senior at Centralia High School. She was excited to hear she made the All-Tournament Team. Eikel said one of the main aspects she focused on during the tournament was to push herself and make adjustments to help her team. Eikel said her main goal this season is to have a winning record and to win districts. Her personal goal this season is to hit her 1,000th point. Coach Schemmer, CHS head girls’ basketball coach, said, “Olivia had an outstanding performance in the Centralia Invitational. Not only was she scoring double digits every game, but she also was showing great leadership on the court. No matter the circumstances of the scoreboard, Olivia is always going 100% against her opponents, and I believe that is obvious to any spectator.”
