The CBMS gifted students in Nexus class are participating in a contest called Future City. In January they will travel to Missouri S&T to share their presentation, model, and essay about their design for a city that exists 100 years in the future. A special challenge in Future City this year is to make the city resilient to natural disasters (such as hurricanes and flooding). In preparation the students are listening to several guest speakers from the community–one such guest, City Administrator Heather Russell, attended our class on Sept. 11. She explained zoning, comprehensive planning, and answered many questions. Please let Nexus teacher, Ann Seider, know if you are an architect, engineer or similar professional and want to speak to the students about city planning.
