Mr. Joshua Lancaster is a new addition to the Centralia High School faculty. Lancaster was formerly a teacher at Hallsville High School for twelve years. He now teaches World History and Psychology at CHS. He is also the new assistant coach for volleyball and girls’ basketball.
Lancaster was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and moved six times growing up. He graduated high school at Oak Grove, east of Kansas City.
Lancaster’s wife, Starla, and his two children, Claudia and Ellie, are thrilled to be a part of such an amazing community. Claudia is in third grade at Centralia Intermediate, and Ellie will be starting kindergarten at Chance Elementary next year. Ellie and Claudia are both very involved in the community and activities out of school. Lancaster said, “I’m excited to be here. I know that it’s a great place for our daughters to go to school, and it’s a great community for our family to be part of.”
During his second year of college, Lancaster felt a pull toward teaching. He said he had many different ideas about the career path he was going to pursue until his grandma suggested teaching. She thought he would be very good at it and, after that, none of the other careers felt right to him. He has been teaching for 15 years now and says he enjoys getting to watch his students grow. Lancaster said one of the pros to his job is working with students who challenge him. He appreciates getting to see all the different ways students think and learn.
Lancaster’s favorite part about teaching is getting to build relationships with students and parents and being a part of a community. He enjoys getting to know the students and having great discussions with them beyond history.
