Adam Petty, Ben Ray and CHS Future Business Leaders of America sponsor Andrew Reynolds represented the Centralia FBLA chapter in Baltimore, Maryland, over the summer. Petty participated in an internship, and Ray competed in the Computer Problem Solving competition.
The trip was a very useful experience for the FBLA. Reynolds said that Petty and Ray will be able to bring more knowledge of the FBLA back to CHS for future students of the chapter. The boys also learned about an abundance of opportunities for themselves and our local chapter.
Petty was an intern on this trip where he provided support behind the scenes. He helped set up over 13,000 chairs for the opening ceremony, and he distributed registration packets to participants from various states and countries. “The experience was unbelievable,” Petty said. “I enjoyed talking with other interns because none of them were from Missouri, so it was neat learning about different people from different states.”
Ray competed at this event, and he received 7th place in the nation. With this experience, he will be able to help future FBLA members prepare for their competitions. On this trip, Ray also attended workshops and learned leadership skills he can use to help improve the local chapter.
According to Reynolds, this is the second year in a row that the Centralia FBLA chapter has had a group or a student place in the top 10 at nationals. During this event, the participants compete against the biggest and smallest schools in the nation, so this experience is different than others these students have ever had in FBLA.
