On Wednesday 26, 2018, the CHS National Honor Society had their 2018-2019 chapter initiation. The chapter’s faculty council selected students for meeting high standards in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership and character.

Twenty-four new members were accepted into National Honor Society: Laken Aulbur, Jayden Bennett, Mary Kate Bennett, Jacob Bentlage, Tanner Brandow, Emily Burkhardt, Lynsie Curtis, John Durant, Scarlett Fox, Schuylar Hatton, Olivia Hombs, Dallas Lewis, Caroline Million, Duke Newsted, Lacey Pavlak, Ben Ray, Wesley Redington, Aaron Richterkessing, Anna Romine, Gracie Schultz, Mallory Smith, Kaitlyn Stankevich, Aida Stanley and Zane Stone.

The NHS officers this year are Beth Heimann, president; Danielle Sims, vice president; Kyra Ward, secretary; and Max Beard, treasurer.

Several NHS activities will take place this year. Jennifer Ludwig, NHS sponsor said, “Service is always our number one goal with NHS. We do one service project a month. We do not have them all lined out, but we will host two blood drives this year, we will do some sort of donation to a group at Christmas time and we will work basketball concession stands to donate money to a local cause. The members are responsible for coming up with the philanthropy event and organizing all of the details. Mrs. Higginson and I just support their efforts.”

The Centralia High School chapter has been active since 1958. Each year the chapter sponsors several service projects for the school and community. The last few years these activities have included Red Cross blood drives, adopt-a-family activities, highway clean-up efforts and fruit plates for senior citizens in the community.
