CHS seniors recently participated in Apply Missouri week. Apply Missouri is a school event sponsored by the Department of Higher Education and the Journey to College Program. This program encourages seniors in high school to start their after-school plans for college, the military or the workforce. During this week, CHS students have the opportunity to work on post-secondary plans.
Mrs. Tonya Dimmitt, one of the CHS counselors, said that this week really pushes seniors to get a head start on their future plans. “We are here for help all year, but identifying a week for Apply Missouri seems to really get students motivated to take steps to prepare for after high school,“ she said.
To begin Apply Missouri week, CHS hosted an assembly for the seniors to present the events that would be taking place during the week and motivate the seniors to participate. Throughout the week, questions were presented and, if a student answered them correctly, he or she received a prize. Also, Cathy Colston, the high school secretary, announced Apply Missouri facts during the daily announcements.
The counseling department recently sponsored another Journey to College event called FAFSA Frenzy where students and their parents could come to the school and sign up for student financial aid. This event was held on October 30, 2018, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the CHS library.
