On September 28, 2018, FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) members went to Worlds of Fun in Kansas City for the Show-Me Leadership Conference. They participated in open testing, listened to a keynote speaker and went on behind-the-scenes tours of the attractions at the park, including amusement rides and a haunted house.
Seventeen FBLA members attended this trip out of the 42 members of the Centralia FBLA chapter. In the open testing portion of the day, two teams placed in the top three in their separate tests. Ben Ray and Lacey Pavlak placed second in Decision Making, and Mackenzie Whithaus and Shane Hawkins were third in Presentation Skills.
The Centralia FBLA Chapter’s head adviser is Andrew Reynolds, a business teacher at Centralia High School. He has been teaching for 12 years and has also been an adviser in FBLA for 12 years. Reynolds enjoys being an adviser because he gets to see the students grow as leaders and see what they end up becoming after high school. Reynolds joined FBLA as a senior in high school, and he said he regrets that he did not join earlier in his high school career.
On this trip, the students had an opportunity to have fun, learn about job opportunities in an amusement park, learn how much some of the rides cost and grasp what goes into running the park.
