Forty-six Centralia band students took a trip to Chicago, Illinois, with Kim Neighbors, their director, on April 18 through 22, 2019. According to Neighbors, the band trip takes place for the prestigious and educational experience it offers students. CHS band students have the opportunity to attend a trip with their director every other year. This year they took a trip to Chicago.
While in Chicago, the band performed at the Field Museum, which is located on Chicago’s Lake Michigan shore. After they performed, the group explored the museum. The band also toured the planetarium, the Museum of Science and Industry, Lincoln Park Zoo and the Cloud Gate or as others know it, The Bean. Mrs. Neighbors wanted her students to be able to see many places on their visit. She explained, “I thought it would be educational for them to experience all the different museums and performances.” The group also ate at a couple of famous restaurants like Bubba Gump Shrimp and Giordano’s Pizza.
Even though the band performed at the Field Museum, there was no competition. The group played very well and not only had a very good response to their performance, but also brought in a huge crowd. The students really enjoyed the trip.
