Katie Patton, CHS Government and Advanced U.S. History teacher, was announced CHS Teacher of the Year on Friday, May 10, 2019, at the Senior Scholarship and Award Ceremony.
According to Dr. Smith, CHS principal, Patton has been a great asset for the school and its students. Dr. Smith commented on Patton’s ability to analyze and improve EOC testing scores, as well as help students who are pursuing military employment or enlistment after high school. He stated, “She is the chair of [the] committees at CHS that focus on successful student placement in these focus areas and also leads a team of teachers who track data and formulate strategies to respond to student needs based on that data.”
Patton has contributed so much to CHS this school year, such as improving EOC testing scores, helping guide students who are pursuing employment or military enlistment after high school, serving as the CHS ACT prep coordinator, being head sponsor for Student Council, organizing all student Homecoming activities, acting as a class sponsor, and coaching the Color Guard during marching band season.
Patton is married to Jerry Patton, and she has five children: Makayla, 17; Shaun, 8; Spencer, 5; Audrey, 2; and Jake, 2. Patton said, “I feel blessed and truly honored to receive the educator award. I work with a great team of colleagues and students who make Centralia a wonderful place to work in. My students are always willing to try new activities for me and work their hardest to be successful. I set high expectations for them every year and they never disappoint.”
