Reynolds Receives CHS December Arrangement of the Month

Dr. Matt Smith, CHS principal, awarded Andrew Reynolds, business/media teacher and FBLA sponsor, the December Arrangement of the Month.

Smith said CHS is thankful for the work that Reynolds does for FBLA, where he oversees the FBLA students and makes sure that the basketball concession inventory is stocked for home athletic events. Reynolds and the FBLA students put in a tremendous amount of work running concessions for home basketball games this time of year. He said, “They make sure we are all stocked up and make sure proceeds get accurately counted and deposited for each game. This is a valuable learning experience for all our FBLA students, and I appreciate the hard work Mr. Reynolds puts into seeing that our students get this opportunity to learn while contributing to school activities.”

Reynolds has been teaching at Centralia High School for 13 years. He teaches information technology and business classes for CHS and is also a sponsor for FBLA and Quiz Bowl.

When we asked him what he feels is the most important part of teaching and education, he said, “I believe for a person to be successful they must know how to learn. It doesn’t matter to me if it’s in a tech school, on-the-job training, or college. If you don’t know how to learn you’re not going to get very far in life.” Reynolds said his favorite part of teaching includes building relationships with students and watching them succeed after graduation.

Reynolds attended Mizzou and graduated with a Bachelor of General Studies, but he eventually went back to earn his teaching license. A couple of years after he began teaching, he started to get a Master’s in Educational Technology, but he only got three-fourths of the way through the program. He hopes to earn his master’s degree soon.

Outside of school, Reynolds has a second job as a charter bus driver for White Knight. He also helps out the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia as an audio technician. He has a wife, Mrs. Emily Reynolds, who is a first-grade teacher at Rock Bridge Elementary and was Missouri’s Elementary Science Teacher of the Year. He also has two kids, Addie, who is seven years old and a “daddy’s girl,” and Oliver, who is five years old and, according to Reynolds, is a “momma’s boy” just like his father.
