Destination Imagination(DI) is world reknown creative problem solving contest and a favorite activity of Centralia's 6th, 7th and 8th grade Nexus students.
Each year, teams of students (consisting of 2-7 team members) select a challenge from five choices offered through DI. They spend weeks to months developing and building a solution for their challenge and present it at regional competition held at an area school. Teams that score well at regionals, proceed on to state competition in Joplin. Their goal is to win that competition and travel to Knoxville, Tennessee in May to compete in the Global Finals.
Students may ask questions from adults to aid in their solution, but DI is very strict in promoting student solutions with no "interference" from nonteam members. All the solution ideas and work comes directly from the team members.
