Finishing The Semester in 8th Grade Language Arts

E-mail Print PDF

As the semester winds down, the 8th graders are working on their book report projects, theme paragraphs and presentations.  Students will create a unique project over their book report book.  They are also creating a paragraph to present about the theme of their books.  Next week they will be presenting these paragraphs.

Before the end of the semester the students will also be taking the Buckle Down Online assessment to show their current level in 8th grade language.  We will be taking this assessment on December 13 and 14.

The week before our break, the students are going to be reviewing what they have learned this semester.  They will also be doing a writing assignment which will help raise money for the Make A Wish foundation, sponsored by Macy's department store.  This will be a great activity to end our semester!

Have a great Holiday Season!

Welcome Back!

Hello, and welcome back to Language Arts!  During the 8th grade we read a variety of literature.  We also do a variety of writing assignments.  The first bit project the students  have is a book report project.  Each quarter the students will pick a fictional book to read and write about.  The process for reading and writing notes for the book reports takes six weeks.  Each week students will turn in book report notes to show that he/she is making progress reading his/her book.

We will be starting to read a excerpt from the story Flowers for Algernon.  Although we read this early, it is always a class favorite.  I am excited for a great year in 8th grade Language Arts!
